Coming up October 4 at the Southwest Michigan Regional Airport will be an event for the whole community to have some fun and learn all about what the airport does.

It’s the Wings and Wheels Fly In, set to feature a variety of activities. Airport spokesperson Nick Gunn tells us they’ll have food, fun, and several competitions featuring aircraft.

You’ll see a landing competition, a spot landing competition, a flower bomb drop, just tons of different things, just see airplanes do some cool stuff,” Gunn said.

Airport Director Shannon Christy told us what the Flour Bomb Drop is all about.

Essentially you go outside the runway itself, and you have a target designated and then you have people that fly down at a pretty low altitude and then they drop a thing of flour to see how close they can get it to the target,” Christy said.

The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety will be on hand with fire trucks for the kids to look at, and there will be information about the airport’s millage, which will be up for renewal next year.

Wings and Wheels will be on Saturday, October 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the airport. All are welcome to come and learn more about the facility.
