A Niles High School staff member has been placed on administrative leave while the district conducts an internal investigation into their conduct, according to a letter sent to families this week.

In the Sept. 24 letter, Niles Community Schools officials said they are reviewing communications and other context related to the matter but did not release details, citing personnel confidentiality.

Superintendent Dr. Adam Burtsfield said the district is committed to student and staff safety and emphasized that the situation is being taken seriously. Officials said the investigation will be handled in accordance with school board policies, and any necessary actions will follow once it is complete.

The district added that it understands the concerns the investigation may raise and promised transparency “within the limits of the law.”

On social media, individuals have said the investigation concerns inappropriate text messages between the adult and at least one female student. Unverified screen captures of several text messages were shared along with the posts.

School officials say parents with questions are encouraged to contact district administration.
