Berrien County Treasurer Shelly Weich is bringing her office closer to residents in South County by holding regular office hours at local municipal facilities in Niles.
Weich provided an update at Thursday’s Berrien County Board of Commissioners meeting saying she will visit both Niles Township and Niles City Hall monthly, helping taxpayers with delinquent taxes, payment plans, and other questions.
The outreach is scheduled to continue through the end of the year and into early 2026, with additional municipalities to be added in January, February, and March. Specific dates and times are still being finalized.
Earlier this week, Weich held office hours at Niles Township and noted a positive turnout.
“It was nice to see residents bringing the postcards we sent out and letting us know they heard about the event,” she said.
The program is designed to make it easier for residents to access services without traveling to the county seat in St. Joseph, and Weich encourages anyone with questions about taxes or payment plans to take advantage of the opportunity.
