A Bangor Township man is facing charges after a joint investigation between police in Michigan and Ohio uncovered sex offender registry violations and alleged online crimes involving a minor.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says it worked with the Defiance, Ohio Police Department to investigate the 38-year-old man accused of using social media to engage in inappropriate communications with someone he believed to be a 12-year-old boy. The department says detectives also determined the man was not in compliance with the state’s sex offender registry law, specifically regarding his listed address.
The Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a felony arrest warrant for the violation, which was executed on Wednesday of this week.
The suspect is now in custody and being held pending extradition to Ohio.
