Set for next Saturday, October 18 is the first ever St. Joseph Downtown Spooktacular.

St. Joseph Today is starting the event to help everyone of all ages welcome Halloween and have some fun. St. Joe Today Director Paul Knapp told us last month us the new event will help keep the downtown bustling, even though summer is over.

We feel committed to inspiring programming 12 months out of the year and looked at October as a void in our annual calendar and thought it’d be a great opportunity to bring something similar to our Magical Ice Fest or the Chalk the Block,” Knapp said.

So, what are some of the things they’ve got planned?

We’re going to have a pumpkin patch with a decorating station, a Halloween market for farmers and artisans and other vendors to come and sell seasonal treats. We are excited for a costume parade down State Street where anyone can come dressed in their favorite costume.”

There will also be downtown hayrides.

Activities for the Spooktacular will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. downtown, but when the fun of the Spooktacular winds down for the day, that won’t be the end of things to do downtown. The city of St. Joseph is planning an outdoor screening of Young Frankenstein at 7:30 p.m. It’ll be held in the Apricot Lot, the parking lot at Broad Street and Lake Boulevard. Those who attend can park in the adjacent lot and watch the movie drive-in style, or they can bring a lawn chair.
