A Cassopolis man is the third person to be convicted in connection with the rescue of a 13-year-old girl during a 2024 drug raid in Benton Township.
Michigan State Police say 25-year-old Johnathon Barrett has been sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison for third-degree criminal sexual conduct following a year-long investigation by the MSP Niles Post.
The investigation began after a Southwest Enforcement Team drug raid uncovered the girl, who had been sexually abused and given meth by several men. Two other men from Dowagiac have also been convicted in the case.
55-year-old Craig Kirksey was sentenced to seven to 30 years, while 27-year-old James Tovey received a sentence of seven to 15 years.
State police say the convictions “reflect the department’s ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable victims and bring sexual offenders to justice.”
