Whirlpool has announced a plan to invest $300 million in two of its U.S. manufacturing plants as part of an effort to grow its American manufacturing footprint.

The company announced Wednesday the investment is expected to create between 400 and 600 new jobs across its operations in Clyde and Marion, Ohio as it increases production of washers and driers there.

Whirlpool CEO Marc Bitzer says an “unwavering commitment to American manufacturing” is a cornerstone of the company’s identity. He adds the “$300 million investment in our Clyde and Marion facilities underscores our dedication to creating jobs, fostering innovation, and delivering high-quality, American-made appliances to U.S. consumers.”

Whirlpool says its Clyde manufacturing facility, in operation since 1952, is the largest washing machine plant in the world. Meanwhile, the Marion dryer factory celebrated its 70th anniversary in September.
