A new home has been found for Present Pillars in Benton Harbor.
The organization that provides support for fathers in the community had to move out of its previous Pillar Center at 204 West Main Street in August due to structural problems discovered there. It then announced it was searching for a new location.
Present Pillars Communications Coordinator Nick Gunn now tells us the new Pillar Center will be located at 315 East Main Street, just a short distance away from the previous building. Gunn says Present Pillars stayed busy while it looked for a new home, but this will make more events possible.
“The Pillars Center is somewhere for men, somewhere for fathers to come and seek mentorship, seek leadership, and engage with the community,” Gunn said.
Gunn says with events like the Pillar Awards, Present Pillars was able to find the backing it needed to secure the new headquarters.
“I believe that the community is seeing the need of having a Pillar Center and the need of Present Pillars in the community. So I feel that the community answered, and I believe that they’re continuing to answer as we are still seeking more community support.”
Anyone can do that by becoming a “dadvocate” and making monthly donations to Present Pillars.
To celebrate the opening of the new center, the community is being invited to come and imagine the new space with some sessions set for October 27, November 3, and November 10. Each will be at 5 p.m. and food will be served as everyone’s invited to share ideas.
