Election results for Southwest Michigan on November 4 are mostly in.

In the city of St. Joseph, Lisa Vetne, Michael Fernandez, and Michael Sarola have been elected to the city commission. Vetne and Fernandez will serve four-year terms, while Sarola will serve a two-year term.

In Benton Harbor, Diedre Fields and Shaquille Turner have been elected city commissioners at large, beating out Duane Seats and Mary Alice Adams. Juanita Henry and Ethel Clark Griffin have been reelected to the city commission in Wards Three and Four, respectively. Neither were challenged.

A bond proposal for St. Joseph Public Schools has been approved by a margin of about 55% to 45%. Superintendent Kristen Bawks says the result “is a testament to the community’s commitment to their public schools.”

Voters rejected a bond for Eau Claire Public Schools.

Royalton Township approved a fire equipment millage.

Weesaw Township approved a fire truck proposition and a road millage renewal.

Niles voters approved a renewal of the Dial a Ride millage, and Niles Township voters approved a proposal to prohibit marijuana businesses.

In Van Buren County, Annie Brown has been reelected mayor of South Haven. Elected to the South Haven City Council were Eddie Polk, Thomas Capps, and Dave Flack.

Jane Danger has been elected mayor of Hartford. There were also races for city commission in Gobles and Hartford, but they were uncontested.

Also in Van Buren County, a renewal of the Van Buren District Library millage has been approved.

Results of the Lake Michigan College millage renewals remain unknown. As of 2 a.m. Wednesday, they appeared headed toward passage, but not all results were in. Benton Township wasn’t reporting.

These results are all unofficial and will remain so until their respective county election commissions certify them.
