The city of Bridgman is welcoming completion of renovations to the restrooms at the Weko Beach campground.

Bridgman Parks Director Sara Ball tells us the city received a $150,000 Michigan Recreation Passport grant for the restroom project.

We have two bathhouses in our campground and one of them was due for renovation,” Ball said. “So, essentially, we kept the existing structure because it was in good standard. And then we just kind of gutted the inside, revamped it, remodeled it, but it wasn’t a part of the grant. We also got rid of our septic system and connected it to the sewer. So that was also an upgrade and it was fantastic.”

Ball says the newly completed restrooms will make for an improved camping experience.

Part of the grant requirement was automatic toilets and sinks, which also will help us be sustainable in our water usage. So that’s kind of a perk. And then we incorporated two family restrooms.”

Ball says these restrooms are just for campers, and the city has noticed in recent years more families are staying at the attraction. So, they wanted to make things more comfortable for them, with baby changing stations and more privacy.

The city worked with BG Construction and Abonmarche on the project.
