A record number of Americans are expected to travel for Christmas and New Year’s this year.
AAA of Michigan spokesperson Adrienne Woodland tells us plenty of Michiganders will be hitting the road and flying.
“AAA is forecasting nearly 4 million Michiganders will travel 50 miles or more away from home for the year-end holiday period that spans from December 20 until January 1,” Woodland said.
122.4 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home over the 13-day holiday period.
“The busiest days are from Saturday, December 20 until Tuesday, December 23. They’re traveling on the roadways. Some of the worst times to travel will be between about 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on those days.”
Woodland says if you are driving, you can beat some of the traffic by leaving before 11 a.m. She advises those travelling by car to have their vehicles checked before leaving.
If you’re flying, like more than 8 million Americans are, allow yourself two to three hours at the airport for domestic travel and three or more hours for international travel. Woodland also advises fliers to pack essential items in their carry-on bags.
