This year’s Christmas and New Years holidays mean a four day weekend, and unfortunately, that adds to hidden dangers on the road.

131 people died on the highways during the Christmas holiday last year, but the National Safety Council projects with a four-day weekend, it’ll mean 431 deaths this year.

The council’s Ken Kolash says drinking is always an issue, but it’s not the only impairment.

Fatigue is another form of impairment,” Kolash said. “Did you get enough sleep the night before? Holidays are a busy time of year and it’s hard to get everything done.”

Being aware of the weather and wearing your seatbelt are the other things you can do to keep from becoming a holiday weekend statistic.
