Van Buren County Sheriff Dan Abbott says it’s been another busy week for his department. In his weekly update, Abbott reports several arrests and ongoing investigations.

Deputies arrested a Lawrence man on a felony third-offense drunk driving charge, along with an outstanding larceny warrant from Dowagiac. In Keeler Township, a woman was lodged at the jail following a domestic violence investigation.

Deputies are also investigating a larceny at a Family Dollar in Grand Junction after three suspects fled the store before they could be stopped. Two of the suspects distracted the store employee while the third suspect exited the building, setting the alarm off.

A felonious assault case is under review in Pine Grove Township after EMS prevented a suspect from grabbing a gun during a medical call. Deputies also seized a large amount of suspected drugs during a traffic stop in Geneva Township.

The sheriff’s department also reminds residents it offers property checks while they’re out of town and thanks all of those who donated food to the department throughout the holidays, noting it still has refrigerators full of items for staff to enjoy.
