A longtime community staple in the village of Decatur is closing while another business moves in to take its place.
The Village Market on East Delaware Street will close its doors for good at the end of business Tuesday. The Village of Decatur released a statement on social media, saying it shares the news with “heavy hearts and deep gratitude.”
The village continues, saying it’s “incredibly thankful to the Murk family for 38 amazing years of dedication to Decatur.” It says the Village Market has been “a wonderful employer, a dependable grocery store for all of our needs, and a generous, supportive community partner,” adding it’s a part of the lives of residents for generations.
However, the news isn’t all bad. The village says it’s excited to welcome Harding’s Friendly Market back to the community starting on Friday, January 9. It’s moving into the Village Market location after announcing an acquisition back in August. The village says it’s grateful many of the same employees will remain through the transition.
Harding’s also announced this summer it’s acquired the Village Market in Gobles.
