With Mary Sheffield in office, Detroit’s former mayor Mike Duggan has become a full-time candidate for governor of Michigan.
Duggan held a Zoom roundtable on Tuesday to discuss his campaign to replace the term-limited Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
“The kind of campaign I’m running is drawing the people who felt left out by the traditional partisan campaigns,” Duggan said. “I am meeting in areas that are considered far right, in very red areas, in agriculture areas, and finding people are angry with both parties there. I’m meeting with some folks on the far left, but there’s no doubt the great majority of my support is not going to come from the far right or the far left.”
Duggan says his campaign is all about reaching those who feel left out in an overly partisan political climate.
Meanwhile, Michigan Democrats this week hosted a press conference to call out Duggan on his platform. They’re concerned Duggan will syphon votes away from their nominee, handing the election to the Republicans.
