President Donald Trump was in Michigan on Tuesday to talk the economy as he pushes back against doubts about affordability.

Trump addressed the Detroit Economic Club, saying the U.S. is in the midst of its strongest and fastest economic turnaround in history. Congressman Tim Walberg said he would have liked to join Trump for the visit.

But I’m sure he talked very strongly about all that the One Big Beautiful Bill is going to do,” Walberg said. “Talking about $3,400 to $6,100 increase in wages for Michiganders as a result of that One Big Beautiful Bill. 184,000 jobs protected. We’ve seen gas prices go down. A lot of great things are happening for jobs, business, housing, all of the rest.”

Walberg couldn’t join the president because of debate scheduled in the House Education and Workforce Committee. Congressman Bill Huizenga also couldn’t join Trump, for similar reasons.

About 100 protesters gathered outside the MotorCity Casino, where Trump spoke. He later stopped at a Ford plant in Dearborn.
