U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin says she is now under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department in retaliation for a video in which she and other senators reminded military personnel they don’t have to obey illegal orders.
Speaking on social media Wednesday, Slotkin said former Fox News host and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro has reached out to her asking for an interview. Slotkin says that’s after President Domald Trump made threatening social media posts about her and the other senators in the video.
“This is the president’s playbook,” Slotkin said. “Truth doesn’t matter, facts don’t matter, and anyone who disagrees with him becomes an enemy, and he then weaponizes the federal government against them. It’s legal intimidation and physical intimidation meant to get you to shut up. He’s used it with our universities, our corporations, our legal community, and with politicians who falsely believe that doing his bidding and staying quiet will keep them safe.”
Slotkin says previous statements by Trump triggered more than a thousand threats, more than 100 of them credible, forcing her into round-the-clock police protection. She added her family was also targeted, with a bomb threat at her home and swatting incidents involving her parents and siblings.
Despite the pressure, Slotkin said she will not stay quiet, arguing the president does not reflect the views of most Americans.
