Bridgman Public Schools announced plans to temporarily close the Bridgman Aquatic Center this spring for a major renovation project aimed at modernizing the facility and extending its lifespan.

School officials said the aquatic center will close beginning Monday, March 23, 2026, with the final day of public swimming scheduled for Saturday, March 21. The pool is expected to reopen in early August, in time for the start of the new school year and the fall swim season.

The $4.7 million renovation will be fully funded through the district’s recreation millage, which has been in place since the 1990s. District officials said the project will not require a tax increase and will have no impact on classroom or instructional funding. Under Michigan law, recreation millage funds may only be used for recreational facilities and cannot be redirected to school operations or educational programs.

Renovation work will take place in phases, beginning with pre-construction preparation in winter 2026. Major construction is set to begin when the facility closes in late March and will continue through July. Final inspections and system testing are scheduled for early August ahead of reopening.

Planned upgrades include a new pool HVAC system to improve air quality and humidity control, replacement of the pool roof, enhanced filtration and UV water treatment systems, structural maintenance, updated fire alarm systems, and refreshed pool deck finishes.

District officials said the aquatic center serves a wide range of users, including students, lap swimmers, swim teams, aqua fitness participants, and physical therapy clients. The improvements are intended to ensure the facility remains safe, efficient, and accessible for the community long term.

During the closure, Bridgman residents will have access to nearby community pools, with additional details to be announced.

Updates on the project, including timelines and frequently asked questions, will be posted on a dedicated renovation webpage maintained by the district.
