Authorities are reporting a massive pileup involving about 100 vehicles has shut down westbound I-196 in the Hudsonville area amid dangerous winter weather. The crash happened around 10:30 Monday morning near 32nd Avenue, during heavy snow and strong winds.

Ottawa County dispatchers report minor injuries. Michigan State Police say the crash scene stretches as far as 64th Street near Zeeland, and drivers are being urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

The National Weather Service says travel is not recommended near and west of U-S-131 through this afternoon, as multiple crashes continue to be reported across West Michigan.

In a separate incident, Benton Township police are reporting I-94 Eastbound is closed at I-196 due to two jackknifed semi trucks. They’re advising motorists to avoid the area and any road travel today if at all possible.
