Legislation from Congressman Tim Walberg intended to increase access to national parks while being fair to motorcyclists has been approved by the U.S. House.
Walberg tells us the America the Beautiful Motorcycle Fairness Act would amend the Federal Recreation Land Enhancement Act to establish that one America the Beautiful Annual Pass will permit the entry of two motorcycles into national parks. He says that used to be standard policy.
“It gives the opportunity for motorcycles, like they used to have until Biden’s administration took away their opportunity, to access national parks, at least two motorcycles together on one permit, just like it used to be,” Walberg said.
Walberg says when considering the rules applied to other vehicles, it’s only fair to let two motorcyclists into a park on one pass.
“When you allow four, five, six passengers in a family vehicle to come in, in an auto or van, and they come in under one permit, you ought to be able to do that for motorcyclists like you did in the past.”
Walberg says as a lifelong motorcyclist himself, he’s experienced firsthand the joys of riding on two wheels through national parks.
Walberg also notes under the Trump administration, the old “two motorcycles, one pass” rule has been reinstated, but his bill will put that into law.
