The Krasl Art Center has big plans for the Richard Hunt Studio Center, located at 258 Territorial Road in Benton Harbor.

Renowned artist Richard Hunt announced he was donating the building to the Krasl before his death in 2023, and it was subsequently renamed in his honor. Krasl Art Center Director Tami Fauver tells us plenty of work has taken place there lately.

We have put on a new roof on the building,” Fauver said. “We did take down some ceiling tiles so we could expose the interior. We removed carpeting. And right now, we are making safety improvements to the building so we can open it to the public.”

Fauver says programming is planned for the facility.

So we look forward to opening up programs and gallery space there to begin with. And a few years out, we are looking forward to offering classes that are unique to that site, different than what we offer at the Krasl Arts Center, and hopefully have some studio spaces available as well for rent for artists.”

Fauver notes at 20,000 square feet, the Richard Hunt Studio is even larger than the Krasl’s main building in St. Joseph.

The Krasl has been working closely with teams from the city of Benton Harbor to ensure all is up to code and ready to go before the building is officially opened to the public this year.
