The Michigan Flywheelers Museum in South Haven is gearing up for a fundraiser to help support its ongoing project to build a new giftshop, and this event ought to offer something for just about everyone.

Flywheelers President Pat Ingalls tells us “Petals and Power Tools” will be on Saturday, May 23 at the museum. They’ll be buying, selling, and swapping power tools and flowers, or anything with flower petals. So, how’d they come up with that combination?

We were just looking for words that play on each other for a different kind of event,” Ingalls said. “So the flowers would be more for the ladies and the power tools is for the guys.”

Ingalls says the museum is looking for people who want to set up shop at the event to help raise funds.

It costs $5 to have unlimited outdoor space to sell or swap, and then we have a pavilion area that’s $15 for two tables. And admission to this event is $1.”

Ingalls says the gift shop project has been going quite well, with bids now out for construction, but they still need to raise a bit more. Petals and Power Tools will be May 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone interested in signing up should contact the Michigan Flywheelers Museum.

Meanwhile, Ingalls says the museum is in its fourth year of an effort to lay track for its mini railroad using trains that were formerly used by the House of David. They’ve laid about 4,800 feet of track with 1,600 more to go this summer. Once that’s finished, the museum will seek state licensing to let people ride the train.
