The ribbon cutting for the new Tribute Plaza in New Buffalo Township has been delayed, but township leaders say they still expect to celebrate the memorial’s completion this summer.

New Buffalo Township Supervisor Michelle Heit tells us the roughly $1 million project is intended to honor veterans. The township acquired the property of a former Michigan State Police post at Red Arrow Highway and US-12 for the plaza, which will include bricks honoring veterans from all over Berrien County, U.S. flags, and an eight-foot globe.

Heit says the ribbon cutting had been scheduled for June 16, but issues with the concrete work still have to be resolved. The township says the plaza is intended to be a lasting tribute to the men and women who have served the country, and therefore, it wants the location to be perfect before its grand opening.

Heit expects the ribbon cutting will still be in July or August.
