Fire departments from four communities responded to a multiple-structure fire on Tuesday east of Grand Junction in Van Buren County’s Columbia Township.

South Haven Area Emergency Services says the Columbia Township Fire Department was dispatched to a fully engulfed structure fire on Fire Lane 5 off County Road 388 around 12:55 p.m. Also responding with mutual aid were the fire departments from Bangor and Lee Township and SHAES.

On arrival, responders were confronted with two structures on fire, a home and a nearby mobile home. SHAES says smoke from the fires was visible from ten miles away. The occupants were reported by neighbors to be out of state.

LIFE ambulance and the Van Buren Sheriff Department also responded to the scene.

The cause of the fires has yet to be determined.
