Parlophone/Capitol Records/UMe

Parlophone/Capitol Records/UMeAs a Christmas gift to their hometown of Liverpool, U.K., The Beatles have teamed up with the Tate Liverpool museum and National Museums Liverpool to present a special listening experience of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

The “immersive experience” lets listeners enjoy producer Giles Martin‘s 2017 Dolby Atmos mix of the band’s classic 1967 album, which was created in celebration of the record’s 50th anniversary. The presentation, which opened Thursday, is being held at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. building at Liverpool’s Royal Albert Dock and will run through January 9, 2020. Unfortunately, tickets are already sold out.

Martin said of the revamped version of Sgt. Pepper, “This new Dolby Atmos mix allows us to fall in the record and to totally immerse ourselves in the fantastical world that was so beautifully created at Abbey Road Studios over 50 years ago.”

Five listening sessions of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band: The Immersive Experience” will be held daily at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. local time. The experience will be closed on December 24, 25, 26 and 31 and January 1.

In other news, The Beatles have debuted a new online feature dubbed “Call the Studio” that promotes the deluxe 50th anniversary reissue of Abbey Road.

The webpage features an interactive rotary phone that allows you to dial a variety of three-digit extensions that connect the user to audio snippets of the band members chatting in the studio while working on Abbey Road. Extension numbers are found on the main page and in a photo gallery featuring pics of The Beatles taken in conjunction with the album.
