The Region 4 Area Agency on Aging is gearing up for one of its biggest events of the year.
The 27th Annual Senior Expo is set for Friday, May 9 at the Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College. The Area Agency on Aging’s Alexandra Newman tells us it’s a fun way for seniors, or anyone else, to come and learn about services available locally and to mingle.
“You’ll visit a lot of Area Agency on Aging booths as well as other non-profits in the area, like the Cancer Service, Disability Network, and then we have a lot of different businesses too,” Newman said.
They’ll also have live entertainment, food, and a community art project. Newman says the Senior Expo always attracts a good crowd.
“Usually each year we get between 800 and 1000 people, and before the pandemic, we had even more than that. So we’re hoping again for a really great turnout this year.”
The first 1,000 attendees will receive a free Senior Expo tote bag.
Among other things, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to collect unused drugs, give people rides from the parking lot to the door, and provide information on the latest scams. The Secretary of State Mobile Office will be on site, and there will be a raffle.
Everyone’s invited to come and have a good time with the expo running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
