A Michigan State Police trooper in our area is lucky to be alive after a truck slammed into his patrol vehicle on I-94.

The MSP says the crash happened Saturday night just after 11 pm on I-94 Westbound near mile marker 25 in Lincoln Township.

Police say during a traffic stop, a trooper was standing outside his vehicle when a 33-year-old Missouri man headed westbound on I-94 veered off the road and struck the rear of the patrol vehicle. Preliminary investigation revealed the man was operating under the influence of drugs. He was arrested and is currently lodged at the Berrien County Jail.

Police say this marks the second crash involving an MSP patrol vehicle in the Fifth District, spanning about a week apart, highlighting the dangers officers face during routine traffic stops.

As a reminder, driving under the influence of any intoxicating substance is illegal and deadly. Also, when you see a vehicle on the side of the road, move over — it’s the law.
