Next week, one of the world’s oldest sporting events will return to Metro Detroit.

The event is called the Highland Games, and it’ll take place next Friday and Saturday at Greenmead Historical Park in Livonia. This will mark the 176th edition of the games hosted by the St. Andrews Society of Detroit, which was founded back in 1849, making it the oldest non-profit organization here in the metro Detroit area.

St. Andrews President Chris McKenzie told us more about the games.

“The Highland Games are a great representation of Scottish life and culture,” McKenzie said.

The Highland Games will kick off with a Ceilidh, which is a party and a celebration of the games that will take place the night before the action begins.
