It took a community of good Samaritans to safely resolve an incident on Lake Michigan near South Beach in South Haven on Thursday night.

South Haven Area Emergency Services says a Zodiac boat with two people onboard capsized, and the ensuing response from witnesses was “amazing.” It says boaters who were in the area came to help, nearby surfers who had been enjoying the rough lake waters were quickly on scene, and EMILY — the new water rescue robot that we’ve covered in the past — was dispatched by beach safety staff.

The occupants of the Zodiac boat were wearing life jackets, and all is now well.

SHAES says assisting at the scene were the South Haven Police Department and the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department Marine Division.
