Michigan House Republicans are teasing some of the cuts in their proposed budget. They say their plan to eliminate waste will cut billions of dollars out of the state budget in order to make way to fund the roads.
State Representative Matt Maddox says he discovered a half a billion dollars in slush funds, which he says are departments taking money for job openings, never filling the positions, and then pocketing the cash.
“Kind of have an idea how they deal with money from taxpayers,” Maddox said. “I know there’s going to be an investigation into it, but right now we know it exists. We know they’re rolling that money over, hoping they don’t have to spend it in this fiscal year. They often roll it over and end up spending the money in the department in some other way.”
Maddox says Republicans found at least 4,000 ghost jobs, and it’s just one of the many pieces of abuse their House budget will expose.
As for Senate Democrats, last week they said the House is obstructing the legislative process by not producing their budget sooner and holding up other bills.
