Niles earned its first-ever win in Stevensville Friday night, shutting out Lakeshore 16-0 behind a dominant rushing attack. Brandon Walsh powered the Vikings with two second-half touchdowns, first punching in a two-yard run in the third quarter and then breaking loose for a 41-yard score in the fourth. He finished with 88 rushing yards, while Elijah Norris led all rushers with 126 as Niles piled up 266 yards on the ground
Lakeshore’s offense struggled all night, managing only 52 total yards and two first downs. Quarterback Eli Wheaton completed just three passes for 23 yards, while the ground game was stifled for only 29 rushing yards. The Lancers had no answers for Niles’ defense and were shut out for the second straight week, still looking for their first points of the season
The win was historic for the Vikings, who had never before beaten Lakeshore on the road — not at the current Al Stockman Stadium, nor at the old Lancer Field. With the victory, Niles improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Lancers dropped to 0-2. Lakeshore will try to regroup, but the challenge grows tougher as they head to face 2-0 Portage Central next Friday
