A Bangor Township man has been arrested following a joint investigation between the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office and the Defiance, Ohio Police Department.

According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation began in September and focused on a 38-year-old man suspected of using a social media app to engage in inappropriate communication and share explicit material with someone he believed to be a 12-year-old boy.

Detectives also discovered the man was in violation of Michigan’s Sex Offender Registry requirements, specifically related to his registered address. The Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office issued a felony arrest warrant based on those findings.

On October 8, deputies executed arrest and search warrants at a home in the 36,000 block of 66th Street in Bangor Township, where they seized several electronic and communication devices. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Authorities have not yet publicly named the arrested individual .

The suspect remains in the Van Buren County Jail pending extradition to Ohio on related charges stemming from that state’s investigation.
