A man who’s charged with murder in the death of his wife in Illinois is in the Berrien County Jail after being convicted of domestic violence charges in a separate case in Michigan.

Tax attorney Adam Beckerink is accused of pushing his wife, Tracey, over the railing of a stairwell on the 24th floor of the Chicago high-rise where he lived in October of last year. Chicago media report he’d been questioned in the death, but was released at the time. After a year-long investigation, an arrest warrant for murder in the case was issued Monday.

However, Beckerink is now in the Berrien County Jail serving 93 days for domestic violence and contempt of court. He was sentenced last week for prior incidents alleged to have occurred at his estranged wife’s home in New Buffalo.

Berrien County Jail records indicate Beckerink will be released from that facility in January. No word yet on when he’ll be back in Illinois to face the murder charge.
