A congresswoman from Michigan wants to address food costs by tackling one recent development that’s caused prices to rise.

Representative Haley Stevens from Michigan’s 11th District has introduced the No Tariffs on Groceries Act to address President Donald Trump’s ability to set tariffs on things like food.

We need open free market capitalist principles to work and to win the day, just as we continue to provide and push for equal opportunity and accessibility,” Stevens said. “And look, the government can lay the playing field, but right now we have a president who is gallivanting the world.”

The bill has been referred to the House Ways and Means Committee.
