A California couple visiting family in Michigan is out of the hospital but still recovering after gunfire struck them while they were driving through Benton Harbor Monday night.
Philip Mills says he and his wife were driving near Napier Avenue following relatives home from dinner when shots suddenly erupted and started hitting inside their car. Bullets flew from at least one unidentified suspect. Both Mills and his wife were struck — Mills in the back and his wife in the arm — but they kept driving and managed to get to safety, eventually ending up in the Walgreens parking lot.
In a news interview with ABC57, the victims say police found more than 50 bullet holes in their vehicle. Mills and his wife say fortunately, they only spent two days in the hospital and were released.
No suspects have been identified. Despite widespread accounts of the incident and ongoing social media speculation, police are not providing public information or media statements.
