Berrien County Veterans Services Director Maureen Adams has been named the Michigan Veteran Service Provider of the Year by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency.
The honor recognizes those who have made a difference connecting veterans with healthcare, education, and other services. Adams was celebrated for expanding support for local veterans and their families throughout 2025.
Berrien County Administrator Brian Dissette tells us the award is well deserved.
“She brings an incredible level of energy and spirit,” Dissette said. “She is a treasure and just an absolute rock star of a county employee.”
Dissette says Maureen’s efforts include coordinating the county’s annual Stand Down event, launching Dine and Discover programs to help veterans learn about the benefits available to them, and hosting a 50th-anniversary Vietnam War commemoration. That’s not all.
“She has opened an office in Niles to provide better accessibility to services for veterans living in the South County. She recently traveled to the State Capitol to pay tribute to Vern Evans, a local veteran who was bestowed the Michigan Vietnam Veteran Award.”
Dissette said Adams has also launched the VIBE network to connect veterans with services and increased outreach at community events like the Berrien County Youth Fair.
Adams says the mission of her office is to ensure veterans have access to necessities including food and clothing, legal assistance, medical and mental health resources, and companionship. She received the honor at the 2025 Michigan Military and Veterans Gala in Detroit this month.
