A 30-year-old Benton Harbor man is facing multiple drug charges after a coordinated law enforcement operation led to the seizure of methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, and drug trafficking materials.
Detectives with the Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET) and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Tactical Response Unit executed a search warrant at the COGIC Village Apartments on Territorial Road on Tuesday (November 25), following a two-month investigation into suspected drug trafficking in the area.
Authorities report that the operation resulted in the confiscation of:
- 86 grams of methamphetamine
- 33 grams of combined fentanyl and heroin
- A digital scale and other drug distribution materials
The suspect was arrested on charges including possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, fentanyl, and heroin, as well as maintaining a drug house and evidence tampering. Authorities did not release the suspect’s name. He is currently being held at the Berrien County Jail.
Law enforcement officials indicate the investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be filed as more evidence is reviewed.
Southwest Michigan Faces Rising Drug Overdose Crisis
Law enforcement officials stress the ongoing public safety risks associated with illegal drugs. According to SWET, fatal drug overdoses in Southwest Michigan claim more lives each year than car crashes and homicides combined.
Residents with information about drug activity are encouraged to submit tips to MSP-PROTECT@michigan.gov
