Lincoln Township could be pumping the brakes on a plan to expand the fire department to full-time.

The township board of trustees voted last month to hire two full-time firefighters, setting the stage for a transition to a full-time department, but Township Manager Kacey Dominguez tells us she’s proposed waiting.

Yes, it is on hold,” Dominguez said. “The original plan was to hire two firefighters and then go for a millage. Right now, what we’re considering is holding off on any hiring, possibly putting a millage on this year for just the two firefighters, which I think would just be maybe one mill, and go from there.”

Dominguez said if the millage passes, then the two firefighters will be hired. If it fails, they won’t be hired. If hired, they could bolster the fire department’s inspections program.

Ballot wording on the hires will go to the township board next month for the elections in August.
