Work is underway to improve the Four Season Pavilion on Huron Street in South Haven.

The city says the work will initially focus on installing some upgrades to the ice rink at the pavilion. They’re adding a permanent in-ground cooling system to the rink. South Haven Assistant City Manager Michael Landis told us last month this will make it easier to get the rink up and running each winter.

That way, the prep time, the execution of building the ring, freezing the ice — it all becomes much more streamlined as a process,” Landis said. “It doesn’t take as many man hours, not as much gravel, extra work as it comes in. So, it’s a more fluid system.”

The pavilion will continue to function as a multi-season facility, supporting both winter ice skating and the farmer’s markets in the summer.

The city says slab demolition and underground work should continue through mid-June, and then construction will resume in October with the final pavement work. The ice rink is expected to be back open in November. During construction, the pavilion will be closed to the public, but it should be available for most of the summer.

The city says it’s also performing storm sewer repairs in the Huron Street parking lot, which could mean some partial lot closures and temporary traffic delays.
