The Buchanan City Commission has authorized the sale of some city-owned property to a new restaurant moving into town.

Buchanan City Manager Tony McGhee tells us the owners of Second & Main Coffeehouse in Niles are opening the new Brick & Bloom at 102 Front Street in Buchanan soon. It’s under construction now.

Part of the project is they wanted to do a better ADA accessible access point to the rear of the building as well as some outdoor seating and some storage for the new restaurant,” McGhee said. “We owned all the property — the city did — around the building. So we worked out a deal with them where they were going to buy a portion of the property that we owned to do those additional amenities they want for the restaurant, and for us it made a lot of sense because it squared up a piece of property we had.”

Brick & Bloom’s owners say the new establishment “will be a little different” from what they offer in Niles, but details haven’t yet been released. McGhee says the city is happy to accommodate the venture as it gets ready to launch.

It’s a great way for us to show support for new business here in the community.”

McGhee says the proposed purchase price will be a $5,000 donation to the city of Buchanan’s Victory Park improvement fund. Specifically, he says the money will go toward the purchase of new playground equipment at the park.

McGhee also noted costs associated with developing the legal description and survey drawings for the proposed transaction have been paid for by the building owner, resulting in no out of pocket expense to the city.
