Preparations are well underway for this summer’s Flag Day events in Three Oaks.
Heather Whitlow is president of the Three Oaks Flag Day Committee and tells us the celebration will be June 12 through June 14 with a festival, a 5K, and parades. And the Flag Day royalty was just crowned on Sunday with little Trey Peters and Lillian Stark of Three Oaks named prince and princess.
“We have a host of little people between six and nine to come out and show off their skills, their dancing skills, they do a little interview,” Whitlow said. “Then we crown a princess and prince that will ride in the Flag Day Parade. They also participate in other events.”
Whitlow says the parade grand marshal has also been named. It’s Bill Donner, a local veteran and farmer who’s being recognized for a lifetime of contributions to the town and its people.
Whitlow tells us the Three Oaks Flag Day Parade is the world’s largest.
“It’s to celebrate the American flag, to honor our veterans, to bring light to our freedom and the freedom which we have and where it stems from, and just to bring openness to talk, to recognize our veterans.”
Flag Day weekend will include the 5K and a pet parade on Saturday, June 13, to be followed by the big parade on Sunday, June 14. Whitlow says it’s a huge event for the Three Oaks community, celebrating near and dear traditions.
Everyone’s invited to mark their calendars and head to Three Oaks to celebrate. You can learn more right here.
