The Region IV Area Agency on Aging is inviting older adults and their advocates to join it for Older Michiganians Day on May 13 in Lansing, with free transportation provided.
The agency is organizing a trip to advocate for causes of concern to seniors and offering bus pick-up locations in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties.
CEO Christine Vanlandingham says the annual Older Michiganians Day brings together older adults, caregivers, and community members to engage directly with state leaders on issues affecting aging in Michigan. This year’s efforts will focus on four key areas: shifting Medicaid long-term care funding toward home and community-based services, expanding access to non-Medicaid in-home support like meals and personal care, modernizing the MI Choice Waiver program, and increasing support for unpaid caregivers.
Vanlandingham says those issues have real consequences that affect people she works with in Southwest Michigan every day.
Those who are interested in joining the Area Agency on Aging for the May 13 trip to Lansing can learn more at the agency’s website. Bus pickup locations will be in St. Joseph, Cassopolis, and South Haven.
