The South Haven Scott Club will present the final concert of its latest Concert Series on Sunday, May 17 at its venue on Phoenix Street.

Scott Club President Carol Anderson Kunze tells us this has been the sixth season of the concert series, bringing in an eclectic selection of artists who incorporate the club’s 1913-built concert grand piano.

For our concert series, we feature our concert grand piano, sometimes with other musicians,” Anderson Kunze said. “We’ve had trumpeters, a flute, singers, just a nice variety.

Kuze says the piano was given to the club as a gift for its centennial in 1983 and is located on the upper floor. And recent work at the club has made it possible for more people to make it to the next performance.

We are particularly excited for this concert because we just installed an elevator-style lift. It’s actually a vertical platform lift. So the concert is upstairs in the Scott Club building, and people with mobility limitations are now able to take the lift.”

Previously, Kunze says the club would accommodate those with mobility issues by projecting the video and sound to the lower level. Now they don’t have to do that.

Performing for the spring concert on May 17 will be REDWOOD, a musician, composer, producer, DJ, and recording artist from Washington, D.C. The club says she’s redefining the boundaries of contemporary jazz.

We’re thrilled to have her. She’s been on our radar screen for a while, and so she’ll be our first concert now that we just reopened over this past weekend.”

Kunze notes the concerts are possible thanks to support from Holtec/Palisades, the Low Family Foundation, and the South Haven Rotary.

The concerts are all free and open to the public, but RSVPs are requested. You can RSVP by sending an email to info@scottclub.org.
