Scott Dudelson/Getty ImagesLast October, Steppenwolf played what founding frontman John Kay said would be the band’s final show, but that doesn’t mean that the singer has completely retired. Kay has a pair of solo shows lined up on April 14 in Phoenix, Arizona, and June 23 in Santa Barbara, California.

The Phoenix concert is an acoustic performance that’ll take place at the Musical Instrument Museum.

The Santa Barbara show will be held at the Lobero Theatre, and will be a multimedia event called “Born to Be Wild: From Rock Stay to Wildlife Advocate.” It features a film screening, a 30-minute acoustic show and a Q&A session.

The movie is an hour-long flick presented by the Maue Kay Foundation, an organization founded by John and his wife that supports wildlife, conservation and human-rights projects in a variety of countries. The film profiles Kay’s life and music career, as well as his journey to becoming an advocate for causes aiding wildlife and the environment.
