The Joseph and Rosemary Low Family Foundation has announced a total of $150,000 in grants to four non-profit organizations around the region.

The Berrien Community Foundation’s Susan Matheny tells us the Lows established their foundation in 2023 with a generous donation to create a program that the BCF administers.

“Mr. Low practiced law all his life, and he and his family really just wanted to support projects that were going to benefit the community,” Matheny said.

Matheny says the grant recipients include Fernwood Botanical Garden in Niles and the Chicago History Museum, which have both been awarded $50,000. That’s not all.

“The Humane Society of Southwest Michigan is a recipient of a $25,000 grant for their cat patio, which I think is really fun. They’re going to serve the cats in the program. They also made a $25,000 grant to WNIT Public Television, which benefits all of us.”

Dr. John Low, chair of the Low Family Foundation, says in these challenging times, the foundation is “honored to support these organizations for the impact they make in their community.”

Additionally, Matheny says applications are now being accepted for the $5,000 Low Family Foundation’s We See You Grants. The application can be found on the BCF’s website, and the deadline is June 1.
