Set for this Saturday is the tenth annual Kite Flying Event in Benton Harbor.
Speaking to city commissioners this week, event organizer Abisayo Muhammad said she’s excited to welcome the whole community out to the large field behind Discount Tire at Napier Avenue and Union Avenue.
“I invite you all to come out to share with your families, the children — as long as they’re accompanied by an adult — to come out and enjoy community, family engagement,” Muhammad said.
Muhammad said the event started at the Southwest Michigan Regional Airport a decade ago.
“It started as an initiative to bring families together to promote STEM with science.”
The Kite Flying Event eventually moved to the new location so it could be in the city.
The free event will run this Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Muhammad invited all to come out to fly a kite or just to watch as kites fill the sky.
