Police have released additional information about a canoeist who went missing on Lake Michigan Friday and was later found dead.
The Lincoln Township Police Department announced on Saturday the man had been scheduled to be picked up Friday evening at Grand Mere State Park after spending time on the water, but he never arrived at the designated meeting point. That prompted a search that began Friday but was suspended that night due to weather conditions.
Search operations resumed the following morning.
The township police department tells us the man’s body was recovered on Saturday by the U.S. Coast Guard. His name has not been released pending notification of family, but police say he was from Stevensville.
Assisting in the search were the St. Joseph Township Police Department and Great Lakes Rescue, which deployed drones.
