Police are investigating after the discovery of a body in Little Paw Paw Lake in Berrien County’s Coloma Township on Thursday.

Coloma Township Police Chief Wes Smigielski tells us the department was called to the scene off Little Paw Paw Lake Road around 11:15 a.m. when the body was found.

Smigielski says the victim is an older man who is known to go fishing in the lake alone on a regular basis. The body was found by another fisherman, not far from the victim’s boat.

The man who found the body helped the Coloma Township Police Department bring it to shore. Smigielski says no foul play is suspected. He doesn’t know exactly how long the body had been in the water, but believes the drowning occurred Thursday morning.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Marine Division and its Victims Services Unit assisted at the scene.

The name of the victim hasn’t yet been released.
