They’ve done it again.

Zo’s Mini Donuts is the winner of the “Michigan’s Next Big Idea Pitch Competition,” held in East Lansing on Tuesday, securing the mobile pastry business $10,000 to further expand.

The Next Big Idea Pitch Competition was held as part of the annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business Summit with five finalists that took the stage for a live pitch before a panel of judges. Zo’s posted on social media Tuesday evening they’re honored to be the big winners.

Zo’s founders Zoey and Lydia Heyn told us earlier this month that if they won, they’d use the money to purchase equipment.

“In order to keep up with this demand, we need the equipment that can produce at a higher capacity,” Zoey said.

“A higher production fryer, which is like niche donut world stuff, but it is super important to meet our demand,” Lydia said. “Because currently, we’re producing right at demand, and as our demand increases, we need to produce more donuts per hour.”

Zoey and Lydia told us this will enable them to continue doing what they do best — serving warm, freshly-made donuts. You can find the signature Zo’s Mini Donuts pink mobile donut kitchens in locations including St. Joseph, Sawyer and New Buffalo throughout the summer. They now have 22 seasonal employees, running five food trucks solely with local high school and college students.

This isn’t the first pitch competition Zo’s has won. In 2024, they won the Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber’s HYPE Pitch Competition, securing $15,000 to help their business grow.

On Tuesday, Zo’s thanked its entire donut family, saying they can’t wait to be back this summer.
